OTTAWA, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Waste Management workers at the Waste Management of Canada Corporation have largely voted in favour of strike action should there not be a resolution in bargaining, said CUPE Local 1338.

“While a strong strike vote does not necessarily mean we will strike, it tells the Employer that we are ready to do so if necessary and it will put pressure on the Employer to come to the table with a better offer,” said Robert Campeau, President of CUPE Local 1338, representing 51 members in waste management.

90 per cent of those who participated in the vote affirmed their support for a strike if there isn’t a resolution. Local 1338 has put wages front and center in bargaining with the Waste Management of Canada Corporation.

“Their wage offer just hasn’t been good enough,” said Campeau. “That’s why I’m so proud of the members for sending the Employer this strong message. We’ve made it clear that we’re prepared for strike action, including things like an overtime ban, rotating strikes, or a full out strike if it comes to that.”
