Founder and CEO, Nicole McLaren, is looking to secure $1 million in combined equity funding and non-dilutive grants. This money will assist in the growing value of Raven Reads by expanding into international markets, growing the senior management team, and enhancing the products by allowing customization of boxes, co-curation of future products, and adding more digital content to their website.

As a member of the Métis Nation of BC, Nicole McLaren funded Raven Reads with the mission to connect subscribers with authentic Indigenous content and educational materials that support Indigenous authors, entrepreneurs and youth literacy programs.

“Through the purchasing of goods for our boxes, we have invested over $300,000 back into the Indigenous economy,” says CEO and Founder Nicole McLaren. “With the majority of these businesses being impact ventures themselves, much of that revenue is then invested into other charities and social impact initiatives.”

Raven Reads is an Indigenous subscription box with a mission to connect subscribers with authentic Indigenous content and educational materials that support Indigenous authors, entrepreneurs and youth literacy programs. Since launching in 2017, the company has grown from 100 subscribers and assembling boxes in a basement to a team of 8, over 3,000 global subscribers and a new 2,000 square foot warehouse.

With the recent discovery of unmarked graves containing the remains of 215 Indigenous children, it has become apparent that many Canadian citizens do not know the truth of Canadian’s dark history. This news has left many Canadians searching for accurate information and reliable sources of authentic Indigenous work. For Canadians and other non-Indigenous people around the world trying to navigate this complex past, Raven Reads provides an innovative solution.
