MEDIA ADVISORY: OCEU President Harry Goslin to Join Striking Hamilton Water Workers at City Hall
HAMILTON, ON –(COMMUNITyWIRE)– Harry Goslin, President of the Ontario Compensation Employees Union (OCEU/CUPE 1750), will join striking IUOE Local 772 members at a solidarity rally outside Hamilton City Hall on Wednesday, July 2 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
Goslin’s visit comes as 54 highly trained water and wastewater operators and skilled tradespeople from the City of Hamilton, continue their strike. The workers, based at the Woodward Avenue Treatment Plant, are responsible for critical operations that keep the city’s water safe and its wastewater systems running — yet they remain without a fair contract.
The rally at City Hall is part of a growing wave of solidarity actions across Ontario, as public sector unions support workers fighting for respect on the job.
WHERE:
Hamilton City Hall, 71 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON
TIME:
12:00 p.m. EST
“These workers aren’t just employees — they’re public safety professionals who shoulder enormous responsibility every day,” said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. “We’re proud to stand with them in solidarity until they get a fair deal.”
Goslin added that public sector workers across Ontario are facing the same challenges — falling behind while doing more with less.
“We know how hard it is to be on strike — and we also know how critical it is to hold the line,” he said. “Our message today is simple: solidarity works. The City of Hamilton must provide a deal that respects these workers and the vital services they provide.”
