CORNWALL, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– The members of CUPE Local 1792 held a rally and information picket along Montreal Road on Friday to sound the alarm on the planned cuts to care time at the municipally-owned Glen Stor Dun Lodge. The Union representing workers at the long-term care facility says their members have been experiencing significant staffing shortages for years, meaning these recently announced cuts to working hours will further erode the conditions in the municipally run Long-Term Care facility.

“Every senior in care deserves the attention and care they need to live out their final years in dignity,” said Adam Bergeron, Vice President of CUPE 1792. “These cuts put vulnerable seniors at risk and hinder our members’ ability to provide the level of care the residents of the Lodge deserve.”

At issue are the recent budget cuts that have dissolved 21 full-time, and 8 part-time positions in the home. These cuts have resulted in less staff on the units, and less time to provide quality care for the residents. Increased rates of employee burnout, as overworked staff struggle to meet the physical and emotional needs of the residents they care for.
