CUPE Local 4705 Stands in Solidarity with Locked-Out WSIB Workers (CUPE Local 1750)

SUDBURY, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– As the largest CUPE local in Northern Ontario, representing 1,500 municipal workers, CUPE Local 4705 condemns the unjust lockout of workers at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), represented by CUPE Local 1750.

These dedicated public servants play a critical role in supporting injured workers across Ontario, yet they have been forced out of their workplaces by an employer refusing to negotiate a fair deal. CUPE Local 4705 stands firmly with our union siblings in CUPE Local 1750 and demands that the WSIB return to the bargaining table in good faith.

Our local invests tens of thousands of dollars annually through our WSIB Committee, fighting for fair treatment of injured workers and challenging the very system these locked-out employees administer. We know firsthand, how vital their work is—and how devastating it is to see them treated with such disrespect.

“We are appalled that the WSIB has chosen to lock out the very workers who uphold workplace safety and support injured Ontarians every day,” said Max Lafontaine, President of CUPE Local 4705. “This is an attack on workers’ rights, and it undermines the public services our communities rely on. We call on the WSIB to end this lockout immediately and negotiate a fair agreement.”
