MEDIA ADVISORY: OFFICIAL OPPOSITION LEADER, MARIT STILES, TO JOIN WSIB PICKET LINE IN HAMILTON FOR RALLY AND PRESS CONFERENCE

Ontario NDP Leader and Leader of the Official Opposition Marit Stiles, will join striking WSIB workers on the picket line in Hamilton at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, for a solidarity rally and press conference.

The event will take place outside the WSIB office at 120 King Street West, where frontline workers continue to demand fair wages, safer working conditions, and an end to the outsourcing of Ontario jobs. Members of other CUPE locals and the Hamilton District Labour Council (HDLC) will also attend to show their support.

“These workers are the backbone of Ontario’s workers’ compensation system —  and they’ve been forced onto the picket line because WSIB and this government refuse to bargain in good faith,” said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. “We’re grateful to have the support of labour allies and elected leaders, like Marit Stiles, who are standing up for fairness, dignity, and public services.”

The strike, which began May 21, is the first in WSIB’s 110-year history. Workers are calling for an end to political interference by the Ford government and for WSIB to return to the table with a fair deal. The strike has already led to growing service delays, mental health strain on staff, and a deepening crisis for injured workers who rely on timely, accurate decisions.
