CUPE members at Bruce Telecom could take strike action

BRUCE COUNTY, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– CUPE 255 members at Bruce Telecom have voted in favour of a strike, meaning workers who help keep phone, cable and internet services running in the region could be on picket lines before the end of the summer if a deal is not reached.
“Our members work hard to ensure that Bruce Telecom is able to provide high quality phone, TV and internet services to over 12,000 customers in the area,” said CUPE Local 255 President Steve Lang. “Unfortunately, the company isn’t recognizing that our members are what keeps the company running and are demanding that they accept low wages and give up hard-fought benefits in their agreement.”
Bruce Telecom has provided phone services to customers in Bruce County for 114 years. Later expanding to include internet and cable as well. In 2024, they were sold by the Municipality of Kincardine to Windsor Private Capital, an investment firm. This is the local’s first round of negotiations since the sale of the company took place.
“Windsor Private Capital needs to realize the importance of this longstanding company in Bruce County, and the role our members serve in ensuring the success of the company,” said Lang. “Our members live and work in the community and are dedicated to the job that they do to provide communications services in the area. It’s time the company work with us to negotiate a fair deal so a strike can be avoided.”
