Solidarity on full display on the WSIB picket lines

TORONTO, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Today on picket lines all across Ontario, members of OCEU/CUPE 1750 made their voices heard. These workers are on strike for the first time in the over history of the organization because their employer refuses to address the significant workload issues, stagnant pay, and toxic environment in their workplace.

In a media event held at the picket line in front of 200 Front Street in Toronto, President Harry Goslin and Chief Steward Nicole Francis from OCEU/CUPE Local 1750 addressed the media in front of hundreds of workers out on the line. “My coworkers and I are taking a stand – right now, this year, this round of bargaining – to defend our own wellness and standard of living, and to fight for a WSIB that prioritizes workers and their needs,” said Goslin.

“It is our members who have a direct effect on the lives of the workers in this province when they are injured or become ill at work. This is work that our members do not take lightly and care deeply about,” added Nicole Francis. “You can rest assured OCEU/CUPE Local 1750 and all our allies, will continue the fight for our members and be here to remind the WSIB bargaining team that we deserve better.”

The members of OCEU/CUPE Local 1750 will be on rolling strikes until WSIB management comes to the table with a fair deal.

Picket lines are forming in Toronto, Kingston, London, North Bay, Ottawa, Sault Ste Marie, St. Catherines, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph and Windsor.
