KEARNEY, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– CUPE Local 1813, representing inside and outside municipal workers for the Town of Kearney, are hosting a town hall meeting for residents as their employer continues to drag its heels on negotiations, leaving Kearney’s municipal workers without a contract for nearly two years.

“Our members work hard to keep the town running, and residents recognize that the services we provide are ones that they depend on,” said Local 1813 President Rebecca Madrid. “Kearney is a small, close-knit town, and the meeting we are hosting is a chance for everyone to come together as a community, give residents an update on our negotiations, and discuss how they can help us reach a fair deal so we can continue to serve the town we are proud to work in.”

The town hall meeting will be held at the Kearney Legion on January 7th from 4:30 until 7:30 pm. Food and refreshments will be served, and everyone is welcome to attend. Leaders from the union local will be present to give an update on negotiations and answer questions from residents.

Madrid says the mayor and councillors have been invited and hopes that they will attend.

“This isn’t just about our local, it’s about the community, and how we can all work together to get a fair deal so that we can better deliver vital services to Kearney residents. I hope the mayor and council recognize this and will attend our meeting.”
