TIMMINS, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Workers across various municipalities in northeast Ontario are joining CUPE after a successful union organizing campaign across the Northeastern Catholic District School Board. Approximately 200 new members from Cochrane, Cobalt, Kapuskasing, Timmins, and more are joining CUPE Local 4681 and CUPE’s 55,000 education workers across Ontario.

“This is a great step towards improving wages and working conditions for Registered Early Childhood Educators, lunch monitors and paraprofessionals at Northeastern Catholic,” said Sue Cyr, CUPE Local 4681 President. “We are thrilled that all of the education workers at Northeastern Catholic District School Board will now be unionized and have the power to advocate for improvements to working and learning conditions.”

Workers brought forward various workplace issues they want addressed during the campaign, including wages, staffing and other concerns about working conditions.
