BLACK RIVER-MATHESON, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Fourteen full-time municipal workers, members of CUPE Local 1490, have been on strike since October 15, 2023. Today they’re joined on the picket line by President of CUPE Ontario, Fred Hahn, and Chair of CUPE Ontario’s Municipal Workers Committee, Krista Laing. Together, they’re continuing the call for a contract that doesn’t slash wages for new members.

The key issue is wages, specifically the fact that the Township is trying to force a new wage grid that slashes wages for new members. This is going to make recruitment and retention of skilled, excellent workers a real issue in Black River-Matheson.

WHAT:
Black River-Matheson municipal workers have been on strike since October 15, 2023, over wages.

February 5, 2024, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
