Reality check: Canadians pay low prices for gasoline

Over the past summer, Canadian drivers expressed concern, if not outrage, over soaring prices of fuel. Oil companies were accused of gouging consumers at the pump.
 
But in this case, perception is not reality.
 
Despite price fluctuations, Canadians enjoy one of the lowest pre-tax prices of gasoline in the world. The price we pay is influenced by several factors, chiefly led by world crude oil prices, where global production is at over 85 million barrels per day.
