CALGARY, Alberta--/COMMUNITYWIRE/--Bird Canada today announced that its fleet of dockless e-scooters are now available for use in Canada, starting today in the City of Calgary. The inexpensive to rent, easy to use, and fun to ride Bird One vehicles are also the most durable e-scooters in the industry, making them appealing to anyone that wants a quick, easy, and low-cost way to get around the city. A few hundred Bird e-scooters are now available throughout Calgary, with more than 500 e-scooters anticipated to be available a few weeks following the launch.

“Bird e-scooters are both a safe and fun way to get around a city,” said Stewart Lyons, CEO of Bird Canada. “We encourage those who are living in Calgary or visiting the city to try the e-scooters at least once. That way they can not only experience what it’s like to ride Bird One, the best-designed e-scooter in the market, but they can also see how easy it is to make communities like Calgary more livable by reducing congestion on the roads.”

How Bird Canada works:

  • Through the Bird smartphone app, riders can locate the most conveniently located Bird e-scooter and ride directly to their desired destination.
  • New riders are provided an in-app tutorial on how to ride a Bird and how to park it, and clear safety instructions are posted on each vehicle.
  • Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet and can request a free helmet be sent to them through the app.
  • Through August 12, 2019, Bird Canada is offering a special Canada launch promotion in Calgary where riders will not be charged the start fee.

Bird is dedicated to safety and recently announced a 100 city s.h.a.r.e. Safe Streets tour. The tour is designed to ensure responsible riding by making safety simple and giving riders (and members of the community) attainable and actionable tips to use for their next ride. Together with neighborhoods Bird provides individuals the opportunity to learn about road safety including how to responsibly and properly ride and park shared e-scooters such as Birds. In partnership with local organizations, businesses, and health and safety experts, Bird Canada will showcase the fundamentals of safe road use for non-car users. Events will include micro-mobility vehicle basics, free helmets and helmet fittings, tutorials of local rules of the road and parking best practices. The s.h.a.r.e Safe Streets tour will be coming to Calgary next month. Stay tuned to Bird Canada’s social media channels for additional information regarding event location and timing.

Calgary was the first Canadian city to create the regulatory conditions to support the launch of this micro-mobility option, addressing all the requisite rules including where Bird e-scooters can travel, speeds at which they can operate, and where they can park.

Bird Canada, which has plans to make Bird e-scooters available in key communities across the country, shares a mission with cities to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions by providing people with a safe and affordable alternative to cars.
