WE Charity Opens NEO

Celebrating a $1,000,000 Donation to build a School of Business Management in Kenya

TORONTO — /COMMUNITYWIRE/ — The WE Charity, including co-founder Marc Kielburger, joined Jos Schmitt, President and CEO of NEO, to open the market in celebration of the closing of a $1,000,000 Donation to build a School of Business Management, as part of the WE College in Kenya. The School of Business Management will both enhance career opportunities in Kenya, and empower young adults with the management, leadership and entrepreneurial skills to develop businesses, create jobs and strengthen the rural economies where they live, raising the quality of local services and creating future generations of skilled professionals who are passionate about giving back to their communities.

“WE has a long lasting relationship with the Schmitt family—Tanya, Jeremy, Jonathan and Jos—who have been active supporters and contributors to the WE organization over the years. Following their instrumental role in advancing grade school and high school education in Kenya, we are delighted to see them continue on their journey of enabling education by spearheading the financing of the School of Business Management,” stated Marc Kielburger. “We are also extremely grateful to NEO and all their close friends who joined in supporting this truly transformational initiative.”

In addition to NEO and the Schmitt family, the following partner organizations and friends contributed to the donation: True North Vantage Inc.; Hybrid Financial Inc.; Marie & Richard Rousseau; Susan, Taylor, Nicholas & Perry Dellelce; Marie & David Pauli; Tracey & John Ing; Candice de Saldanha; Erik Sloane; and Angela & Bardya Zaian.

“NEO is about enabling business and doing what is right for the Canadian capital markets and economy. WE is about doing good in a sustainably manner in countries that truly need support. Providing local communities in Kenya with the means to build their own businesses for a sustainable future is taking our passion to the next level,” noted Jos Schmitt, President & CEO, NEO. “I am very grateful to WE for creating this opportunity and to our business partners, friends and families for helping to make it a reality.”

About WE

WE Day is part of WE—a family of organizations that makes doing good, doable. WE is made up of WE Charity, empowering domestic and international change, ME to WE, a social enterprise that creates socially conscious products and experiences to help support the charity, and WE Day, filling stadiums around the world with the greatest celebration of social good.

WE Charity was founded in 1995 by then 12-year-old Craig Kielburger with a mission to fight child labor. WE has since grown and evolved to address the root cause of child labor—extreme poverty. In the past 24 years, WE’s programs have empowered over 1 million people with clean water, built 1,500 schools and schoolrooms overseas, and empowered more than 200,000 children with access to education.
