Press Release: Class Action Settlement

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has approved an approximately $36 million settlement of a class action involving twelve former Ontario institutions for individuals with developmental disabilities. The lawsuit alleged former residents were harmed while living at these institutions.

The allegations have not been proven in court. Subject to certain restrictions on the years of residence, the class action generally covers anyone who used to live at any of the twelve institutions. The twelve institutions consist of: the St. Lawrence Regional Centre, D'Arcy Place, Adult Occupational Centre, Pine Ridge, Muskoka Centre, Oxford Regional Centre, Midwestern Regional Centre, L.S. Penrose Centre, Bluewater Centre, Durham Centre for the Developmentally Handicapped, Prince Edward Heights and Northwestern Regional Centre.

If you or anyone you know lived at any of these institutions and were hurt while there, you can now make a claim to apply for compensation under the settlement. Claims must be submitted to the Administrator by no later than February 28, 2017.
